MASSAGE TYPES

RELAXATION

Perfect for reducing stress, relaxation massage is intended to be soothing and is applied at a lighter pressure. It treats the more superficial layers of muscle that tend to be the most tense, such as the neck, shoulders and back. This is a great way to activate your parasympathetic nervous system.

SWEDISH

Swedish massage is a common method that implements a variety of techniques, such as long gliding strokes (always towards the heart to improve circulation), percussion, kneading, tapping, rolling and vibration to loosen up soft tissue and tension in muscles. Pressure can be light, medium or firm. Swedish massage also contributes to stress reduction and sleep improvement.

DEEP TISSUE

Deep-tissue massage is intended for releasing adhesions and deeper tension hidden within muscles and connective tissue and is typically performed with a deeper pressure. It is beneficial in increasing range of motion in areas of the body that hold restriction, aiding in recovery and relief of an injury, chronic pain or illness.

SPORTS

Sports massage aids active people in injury prevention, preparing for optimal performance for an event, recovering from an event, pain relief and increased range of motion. A number of modalities including stretching, deep tissue, ice scraping, and myofascial release are typically used.

Add-ons

Each session will be customized to your needs and is all-inclusive of any “add-ons”; options include —

Cupping originates from Traditional Chinese Medicine and utilizes plastic cups with a vacuum force to target specific areas of tension. The cups pull up soft tissue, blood, toxins and lymph to the surface to relieve pain and inflammation, improve circulation and promote lymph flow and toxin elimination. Typically this produces marks which will fade within a week.

CUPPING

Stretching (active and passive) is a great way to release tension in joints and tendons as well as muscles. Improved mobility, range of motion, and pain relief are some common benefits.

STRETCHING

Ice scraping is performed using small cups of ice over areas of the body to decrease pain, inflammation and swelling and to promote healing. This is commonly used for athletes post-event or injury, or people suffering from chronic pain and inflammation. The ice reduces blood flow to a localized area.

ICE SCRAPING

Aromatherapy is an optional component of massage that includes the use of essential oils (applied topically or via inhalation) such as lavender, orange, lemon, eucalyptus, peppermint and tea tree oil. Each essential oil serves a different purpose, from stress relief to treating respiratory issues and tension headaches.

AROMATHERAPY

Gua sha is an ancient Chinese technique that utilizes a smooth flat tool made of stone to perform scraping over the body. The scraping helps to reduce scar tissue in areas of the body, reduce pain and improve circulation locally. Gua sha can be used on the face and neck to relieve tension and promote relaxation, and can help relieve headaches and migraines.

Hot towels are applied after a certain area of the body is worked on, and further promotes the relaxation of muscles and increases blood flow in the body.
